Explosion!

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis have been looking at explosions this week. We put vinegar and warm water in a bag and dropped bicarbonate of soda in and sealed the bag. We stood back and watched the bag explode!

Next lesson we will be turning this into a scientific investigation by changing the independent variable and measuring the dependent variable.

Draw with Rob

For our art lesson this week, dosbarth Mrs Curtis introduced dosbarth Miss Powell to “Draw with Rob”. We followed Rob Biddulph’s step by step video of how to draw a stegosaurus called ‘Gregosaurus’.

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis, then picked another animal to draw.

Lego WeDo

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis have been using the Lego WeDo sets and app, to make Milo the Science Rover. We then added a motion sensor, that will be used to detect the presence of a corpse flower in the Indonesian rainforest.

Once our Science Rovers were built, we used the Lego WeDo app to program the rovers to stop and sound an alarm when it found the corpse flower.

Mathematics

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis have been working out how much carbon is absorbed by the trees in the school field.

First the children measured the circumference of a tree about 1.5m from the ground.

We then used information from ‘Just one tree’ to work out the trees dry weight value in kg.

The carbon stored in the tree is half the dry weight, after dividing the weight by two we had the amount of carbon absorbed by that tree.

Vegetable Boxes

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis and dosbarth Miss Powell have grown vegetables over the summer and have made veggie boxes to sell, to raise money to invest in their garden area.

Each box includes carrots, parsnips and beetroots. Da iawn bawb.

Rainforest Art

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis and Dosbarth Miss Powell have been creating a rainforest in the classroom. The children researched animals that live in the Indonesian rainforest. They then decided on an animal that they wanted to draw and used oil pastels, to give them colour.

The animals will be added to our rainforest display in the classroom.

Wildlife Haven

Dosbarth Mrs Curtis have been busy this term making their outdoor area into a wildlife haven.

They have planted flowers and vegetables, made a bug hotel, provided water for hedgehogs and other animals, put out a bee water station, collected rain water for watering their plants and started a compost bin.

The bee’s have even started using our bee box and the children enjoyed having a closer look at the larvae.
