Science Workshops

What an excellent day of science workshops led by Fizz Pop! Learners from Reception to Year 4 had a great time today, taking part in the science workshops with learners from Gladestry School. They explored various chemicals, observing fascinating reactions such as bubbling, colour changes, and changes in texture. The learners were even lucky enough to create their own pots of slime to take home! Everyone shared fantastic ideas throughout the day. Bendigedig pawb!

Pancakes

Dosbarth Un had an exciting day listening to the story ‘Mama Panya’s Pancakes’ and exploring the science behind making pancakes. The learners observed and discussed the physical and chemical reactions as they went through the cooking process. Additionally, the learners investigated the effects of adding different toppings to both cold and hot pancakes. Before doing so, they made predictions about how the toppings would react. The learners were thrilled when it was time to eat their pancakes… yum!

The Great Big School Clean

Dosbarth Un participated in an online live workshop, The Great Big School Clean. We explored what litter is, where it comes from, why it is a problem and what we can do to help tackle it. The learners now plan to put their learning into action to make a difference in our community.

The Red Dragon Of Wales

This week, Dosbarth Un have been exploring the story of ‘The Red Dragon of Wales’. We have taken a closer look at the characters and setting, as well as the emotions woven throughout the tale. As part of this, the learners designed their own flags to represent these emotions. For example, some learners chose to add sparkles to symbolise the excitement of the Red Dragon’s victory and protection of the land, while others used bright colours to express happiness. Some learners incorporated darker shades to reflect the sadness of the dragons’ battle, and others included hearts to represent love, inspired by the Red Dragon in the story. Bendigedig, Dosbarth Un for your creative and thoughtful designs!
The learners will soon be working in groups to act out the story.

Models of New Radnor

Following their work on maps, Dosbarth Un have created models of the significant features of New Radnor. The learners worked collaboratively, thoughtfully selecting their own resources for their models. They made excellent use of the pictures taken during our welly walk to support their work. The learners then moved onto peer assessing each other’s work and responded to the feedback they received.

Planning for Radnor Robins

Watch this space! Gwyliwch y gofod hwn!
Dosbarth Miss Powell spent the morning observing in Radnor Valley Little Robins Playgroup. This was so that we could collect information to inform our decisions, as part of our task to plan and deliver a Welsh themed-provision for this group! Diolch yn fawr iawn to the fabulous Hannah for supporting us with this project.

Battery Competition Winners!

We are thrilled to share some amazing news with you all!

Today, we had some surprise visitors into school from Powys Recycling and ERP UK Ltd, who announced that we have won the Powys Recycling Battery Competition! Our school recycled an incredible 289.5 kg of batteries – that’s around 6 kilos per pupil! As a reward for this fantastic achievement, we have received some vouchers, which the Eco-Committee will use to support environmental initiatives within our school. A huge thank you to everyone for contributing to this success! Your efforts in recycling have made a big difference to the environment! We would like also to say to a big thank you to Powys Recycling and ERP UK Ltd for organising this.

Maps of New Radnor

Dosbarth Un have been exploring their local area. The learners went on a welly walk to identify significant features of New Radnor, discussing their importance and how they contribute to a sense of belonging within the community. Using the photographs they took during the walk, the learners created their own maps of New Radnor. Some learners drew their maps, while others worked in a group using resources of their choice to design their map collaboratively. Everyone carefully considered the appearance of the significant features, including their size, colour and position. Bendigedig Dosbarth Un!

Diwrnod cyffrous arall! Another exciting day!
Elise, Ollie and Millie received responses to their formal letters!
Learners were thrilled to read these, and shared them with the class. Da iawn pawb, we are so pleased your efforts have been recognised!
