Random Act of Kindness Day

Last week Dosbarth Mrs Smith watched Charlie Macksey’s animation – The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. We then spoke about the importance of the messages throughout the video and why Children’s Mental Health Week is so important. We created positive quote posters to have on display in class. Today was Random Acts of Kindness Day and we spoke about the importance of being kind at all times. We ended the day by writing a kind message to someone on a heart

Mini Art Project

This half term Dosbarth Mrs Smith have been working on a mini art project

We began by researching Kyffin Williams, a famous Welsh artist from North Wales. We then moved on to a local artist Matt Drew from Crossgates. The pupils all emailed him and were very excited to have received responses to each one with some advice. Following this we went on a walk around Maesyfed to take pictures for inspiration in our work. This week the pupils have produced excellent pieces from their research. Da iawn pawb!!

Measuring

As part of our learning on measurement, learners were asked to reason with Miss Powell’s Sat Nav.. We knew that is was faulty and so we used trundle wheels to measure the more accurate distance from Sharon’s Shop to school.

5 Little Dragons

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have worked as a group to discuss possible sounds that a dragon can make and chose five of these to create a song. The learners then thought carefully about which instruments would be good to represent each of these sounds, using the instruments creatively to express their own ideas.

Welsh Dragon

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne wanted to find out why there was a dragon on the Welsh flag and have learnt about the story of ‘The Red Dragon of Wales’. We created our own dragons using natural materials, and then thought carefully about what we could say to our dragon to make it feel like it belongs in New Radnor, exploring the language of empathy. The learners did an excellent job of using their imagination and creative skills to make their own dragons and came up with great ideas for what they could say to it. Bendigedig Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne.

Welsh Cake Project

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been busy carrying out a mini-project on Welsh cakes in our Mathematics and Numeracy lessons. We carried out a tally in the other classes to find out which was the favourite Welsh cake flavour. We transferred this data into a graph/chart and answered some maths questions using this. We also made some posters for our stall as part of our planning time. We then made and sold our Welsh cakes to the children in the school and worked out how much profit we made, which was £18.37. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who bought some Welsh cakes from us… we hope you enjoyed them!
