We have been learning about planting and growing. We planted a range of seeds, beans and flowers in our garden. We also planted our own sunflowers and potted some potatoes to grow.

Den Building
We have been using our teamwork skills to build dens. We had great fun and made some amazing hideaways!
Planting wildflower seeds
Last year Dosbarth Mrs Curtis and Dosbarth Miss Powell planted wildflowers, the children then collected the seeds from these flowers. This morning we have planted the seeds in our pots, we are excited to see the flowers grow and attract insects.
Sunflowers
Dosbarth Miss Powell and Dosbarth Mrs Curtis had a busy afternoon on Friday. We planted sunflower seeds in the pots that we decorated on Thursday. Whose sunflower will be the tallest?
Maths and Numeracy
In Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne, this week we have been busy in maths learning about money. Some of the activities included a coin hunt outside, shop role play and some coin games.
Jack and the Beanstalk
Within Dosbarth Miss Borgoyne, this terms’s topic is ‘Down in the Garden’. As part of this, we have began to explore the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. This week we have been introduced to the characters in the story and have written character descriptions for some of them. Watch this space for more work linked to the story in the coming weeks.
Swansea WW2 trip
Dosbarth Mrs Curtis had an early start on Thursday morning travelling in style, on a VIP bus to Swansea. First stop was the Dylan Thomas theatre to see the play, ‘Arandora Star’. Where we learnt all about Welsh/Italians living in south Wales during WW2 and how they were treated during this time. This was followed by a question and answer session with the cast.
After lunch we had a quick walk around the waterfront, before going to the Waterfront Museum to take part in a WW2 workshop.
Welly Walk
Dosbarth Miss Powell and dosbarth Mrs Curtis went on a welly walk during their Health and Well-being session this week. We all enjoyed being able to get out and explore our local area.
Explosion!
Dosbarth Mrs Curtis have been looking at explosions this week. We put vinegar and warm water in a bag and dropped bicarbonate of soda in and sealed the bag. We stood back and watched the bag explode!
Next lesson we will be turning this into a scientific investigation by changing the independent variable and measuring the dependent variable.
WW2 Cooking
Dosbarth Mrs Curtis and dosbarth Miss Powell are investigating how recipes had to be re-invented during World War 2, due to food shortages and rationing. Both classes discussed what types of food you could grow in your garden that could be added to cakes, instead of other hard to get ingredients. We decided that if you could put carrots in a cake, then maybe you could use other vegetables too.
This week we have made beetroot chocolate cake.
We were all a bit put off by the thought of beetroot in cakes. However once we tasted them, we discovered they were delicious!
We have all made a WW2 recipe book that we will add a new recipe to each week.
I wonder what next weeks recipe will be?
