India

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have started their theme of ‘Diversity’ this term. The learners located India on a map and compared it to the United Kingdom. They worked hard to carry out some of their own research using technology, maps and books to find out information about the country.

Special Books

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have learnt about the Torah this week. As part of this, the learners created scrolls with their own special messages in. Some examples of these included, ‘Be kind to one another and treat everyone as you want to be treated’ and ‘Be nice to one another and listen so everyone can speak. Look after the plants so the Earth is colourful and peaceful’. The learners also had the opportunity to bring in their own special book to share with the class and then carried out a piece of work on this.

Star of David Art

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been learning about the Star of David and have been creating some artwork inspired by this. The learners started by exploring different media to see which they felt was going to be best for their final design and then experimented with colour and pattern to see which colours they felt worked well together. The learners thought of words to describe their patterns and came up with words such as ‘bright’, ‘happy’, ‘warm’ and ‘cold’. Some of the learners practised drawing the Star of David before then creating their final pieces of artwork. All learners have tried particularly hard throughout our lessons and have created some amazing art!

Jedaism

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have started learning about Judaism this week. The learners began by independently exploring a range of artefacts. They described these and created their own questions about what they wanted to find out about them. The learners thought of some excellent questions in which they are excited to find out the answers to.

Coding

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been enjoying learning about coding this week. The learners have created sequences of instructions so that they can think creatively and solve problems. They have engaged within a variety of coding activities. Some of these have included practising different directions outside, exploring algorithms using practical activities where the learners were required to follow their partners instructions to perform given tasks and exploring how to retell the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ through directing the Bee-Bot and using J2Code on the computers.

Three Little Pigs House

The learners in Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have been applying their knowledge and understanding of materials and their properties to independently make their own strong houses for the ‘Three Little Pigs’ to live in. The learners thought carefully about the features of their houses, the materials they used and why, and they talked about what materials they would use if they were going to make a real house, giving reasons for these. The learners have all worked particularly hard and have constructed some amazing houses to confidently talk about. Bendigedig Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne!

Three Little Pigs

Dosbarth Miss Burgoyne have used their knowledge and understanding of materials and their properties gained from their previous Science and Technology lessons, to work in small groups to find ‘good’ and ‘bad’ materials for building a house with (a real house or a strong toy house). The learners talked about the reasons for their choices and shared these with their peers.

We read the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ and tested the three materials the pigs used to find out whether they were ‘good’ or ‘bad’ choices to build a house with and why. To finish off, the learners then sorted some more materials, such as concrete, slate and wool, working within groups.

Harvest Festival

Diolch! Thank you!

Thank you to all our parents who joined us this week to celebrate our Harvest Festival. We are very proud of our learners, up on stage for the first time this year…For some, the first time ever!

Huge thank you to all the donations towards the food bank. Upcoming post to detail more about that!
